GPS devices have long been designed primarily for car use, with motorbike riders generally forgotten about. Tom Tom aim to change all that, however, with the Tom Tom Rider, a version of its popular Tom Tom Go GPS device that’s designed specifically for motorbikes.
Fitting a GPS device to a bike requires a number of modifications. Firstly, there’s the fact that it’ll be clamped to a bike that hurtles through the streets in all weathers without the comforts usually associated with a car (i.e. a roof and a heater!). Then there’s the added problem of a biker trying to poke the screen with large gloves on.
Add to that the difficulty of trying to see the screen in bright sunshine and the fairly obvious problem of the biker not being able to hear the instructions from the GPS with his crash helmet on, and you can perhaps understand why bikers have traditionally been forgotten about by the GPS manufacturers.
Fortunately, Tom Tom have sold all these problems…
